09/25 - 09/27/2019 - Mike and Mary, Burt, IA

Had a great stay - our first time here. Loved it! Fishing trip to the Black Hills. Weather could have been better. Would recommend Wickiup!

09/08 - 09/11/2019 - Fred and Susan N., Iowa

“Cute and Adorable”, Rustic and comfortable - no matter how you want to describe this haven. Timbertop was the perfect 3 night stay for us. We explored trails, look-out towers and tiny towns during the day looking forward to another peaceful evening at Wickiup. Starla deserves an award for hospitality, helpfulness and cheerfulness. Thank you! We hope to see you again! The Little Red Jeep!

09/04/2019 - Bob and Peggy C., Brooklyn Park, MN

Another great visit for us! We love the Hills and love the Wickiup! Les, Jackie and Starla are very great people and hosts! I have lost track of how many years we have been staying here. We have stayed in Prospector, Ten Sleep, Frontier and Timbertop. Several times in each! Love each spot. Can’t even come up with a favorite. Bob grew up in Deadwood, so the area holds a very special place in heart (and mine). Thanks to all! We will be back.

08-19-2019 - Dennis and Debbie

Checked in, eating dinner, reading this book. We grew up in Lead 50 years ago and come back every year to relax. Found Wickiup, great cabin. Everything you need, peaceful and quiet. Had a GREAT time here. Hope to be back.

06/22/2019 - Natalie and Gaby, CA

What a wonderful place to be with friends and family. Thanks for the wonderful welcome and the care and love you put into your cabins and surroundings. Jackie, we’ll have to come back so you can teach us spicy farkel. P.S See you next year!

06/2019 -

Deibert has been coming here 45 years, with his family and late wife Wanda. He showed me many photos of the time they spent here and it was always happy. This is my first time to S.D and I love it going up and down mountains is a little scary but beautiful. I’m so happy with the staff and the cabins. It’s beautiful and relaxing. There is so much history here. We had a wonderful time.

06/05/2019 - Dave and Mona, Grand Marais, MN

As soon as we arrived here, we knew we would love this sweet cabin. Starla welcomed us so graciously and made us feel right at home. We were hoping for a tranquil setting in the beautiful Black Hills. Well, we certainly found it here! There are so many great places to explore in this region and we only scratched the surface! We are already talking about when we will return to “Tree Top”. Everyone here, Starla, John, Les and Jackie have been so generous and helpful. Great people at a great place!!

We arrived 9-16-18 for our 1st vacation just the two of us since becoming empty nesters 12 years ago. 30 years of marriage. Thank you for the perfect place with no distractions for us just being together. We love the area, the cabin. The staff, Starla, was helpful. We enjoyed talking with Les. We hate to go home because it is HOT in Missouri. Some day we’ll be back!

06/24 - 06/29/2018 - Bob and Peggy C.

Another great stay at the Wickiup! We have stayed at Prospector, Ten Sleep, Frontier and Timbertop. All great! Bob grew up in Deadwood and we come back at least once a year to fish, bike, relax! Cant find a nicer place! We will be back!

7/7 -7/8/2017 - Mark and Sharon, TN

Just stayed 1 night during a road trip from Yellowstone to the Badlands.  Loved the cabin and the location.  Best nights sleep so far on the trip.  Wish we had time to stay longer.  Great hospitality & very friendly people.  We hope to be back soon for a longer stay.

08/15/2018 - Kirk and Yvette

Cute little cabin that fit our needs and desires. Woke up at the earliest rays of dawn for my 63rd birthday in the wonderful 2 week adventure from Maryland - Ohama - by train to Salt Lake, drive to Bozeman to Black Hills and Pine Ridge/Badlands. Yvette and I celebrated our 30 years together.

9/30 - 10/1/2017 - Jim and Paula, Gillette, WY

When I first found out my husband made reservations to stay at Wickiup, I was ecstatic.   Upon arrival, it was more than I imagined.  Awesome, friendly staff!  And an awesome B-Day weekend for me! What a momentous weekend!  I'm sure I speak for my husband also.  Would love to make this an annual event!

8/20 - 8/25/2017 - Chelsea, Tanner and Stetson, MN

First family vacation! So glad we picked Timbertop.  Cute, quaint, quiet, the ideal vacation spot.  We will be coming back for sure.  This trip we ventured out hiking all over the Black Hills ad will hopefully do some adventures closer to Wickiup next time we are here.  The BEST hospitality we've ever had and our dog had the best time!

7/12/2017 - Art and Karen C., Topeka, KS

2nd time at Wickiup but not the last.  Came last year and stayed in Brookside with 2 of our kids and 2 of our grandkids.  This year we are by ourselves on our 40th anniversary trip.  Art grew up in Deadwood so it is like coming home.  Quiet, hikes and met some of Art's extended family while here.  Next off to Yellowstone.

7/30/2017 - Zach and Amanda K., MN

We loved our stay here!  We were out for Kayla and Chad's wedding.  We will be back!

7/20 - 7/24/2017 - Les & Annette O., MN

Loved it here!  Thank you so much for your kindness.  Loved the cabin and everything about it.  We will be back...maybe with family!

05/2017 - Don and Joy H.

We so enjoyed our time here.  Everything was tidy and cozy.  Whatever we needed was available right in the cabin.  Loved the location and the absence of the crowds.  I hope we can come again.  Thank you!

9/1/2016 - Bill and Jackie C.

Great stay - thanks so much! Will be back!

10/1/2016 - Julie and Jim, Wheat Ridge, CO

This was our second stay at Wickiup and we were able to see all the things we missed last time.  The weather was glorious and we had 3 amazing hikes in the sunshine and aspens.  Thank you for the tip for the Bay Leaf Cafe - it was very good, fun folks and very accommodating for the gluten -free member of our party.  We'll be back in June!!

9/22/2016 - Kenny and Camilla W.

This was a great place to stay.  Very friendly owners and very helpful.  What a beautiful place this area of South Dakota is!  Off to Rushmore.  Thank you.

9/18/2016 - Don and Vickie C.

Wickiup is a special place - 1st visit in the late 1970's.  Our family was young - we loved it then and now.  Thank you for your welcome and smiles!! See you in '17!

8/22 - 8/24/16 - Paul and Marcel, New York

“Cute spot in an amazing location. If you're thinking of passing by Cheyenne Crossing on your road trip this makes the perfect stop in the gorgeous Black Hills!”

8/20/2016 - Bend, OR and CT

We stayed 16 - 20th and drove all around North and South Dakota learning all about the wonderful landscape and the people who live here.  Checked off National Parks and new states.  Great little cabin to rest and explore!

8/9/2016 - Shelley and Steve, Cleveland, OH

Sturgis week was part of our adventure for the week.  Great time with great friends.

7/29/2016 - Denny and Donna O., MN

We stayed here 3 nights.  Beautiful area and a very quiet place to stay.  We enjoyed visiting Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, Bear Country and Devils Tower.  So much to see and so little time!

7/26/2016 - Jake and Rachel

Absolutely loved our stay in the area and in the cabin.  Will definitely recommend to family and friends.  Nothing like that mountain morning fresh air.  Thanks!

7/10/2016

My two buddies and I had a blast at Wickiup!  Nothing to it but to do it! GO SCOOPERS.

7/4/2016

Rebekah and Tim stayed here last night.  One stop of many on a drive from Seattle, WA to Washington, DC.  Very lucky to be able to book this cabin at the last minute.  Hope to visit SD again in the future.  Happy Independence Day!

6/27 - 7/3/2016 - Mark Y. and Jill B.

Really enjoyed our time away from Minneapolis, however, our only regret was not spending more time here at Timbertop!  Such a great area ad cabin.  Will look forward to coming back again!

6/3/2016 - Jen and Steve W.

Staying in the cabin my parents and grandparents rented beginning back in 1950's - back then the heat source was a monarch range (wood fired) - no electricity and no running water with cabin.  We used the outhouse just up the hill to the north or walked to the "bathhouse" where there were toilets, sinks, one shower and washer/dryer.  Best childhood memories are right here at Wickiup.  So glad we can comeback and now are bringing our grandchildren!  5th generation of Jones kids at Wickiup.  The creek is fun, games, playing, hiking and trips to the store.  Love it all!

2015 - Simone

So peaceful, the wind through the pines and the sound of the creek.  Temperature is perfect.  Went to Devils Tower. Make sure you see it.  It's magnificent. The walk to the base was glorious.  I've been camping all my life, cabins or tent and this has been my best experience EVER! The hosts that work here, the people that I met at the wonderful camp fire, all have been so wonderful.  The area is magnificent and the cabins are adorable. Love all the windows. The sound of the creek, the wind in the ponderosa pines, it just does not get better than this.  Will come back again and again.  Thank you for this unforgettable experience.

9/8/2015 - Erma and Ray, WY

Second visit - still peaceful, quiet and relaxing.  Cute little cabin!  Had lots of fun.  Sassy liked it too!

7/21/2015 - Sharon and Ed, NE

So peaceful up here! Even though we are not by the stream (it is across the road) we can still hear it at night.  If you get a chance go to Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood.  Lots of history in that cemetery.  Went to Keystone. Beware they charge $5 for parking.  We lived in Rapid City 24 years ago and come to the area to see how Crazy Horse is coming along.  My FIL visited us when we lived here.  We took him to see Mt. Rushmore.  He was looking at it and I asked him if he had ever been here before. He said yes he had but they only had 3 faces done. :)  Going through Spearfish Canyon today. We wish we road the Spyder Can Am up here.  Another time maybe. Enjoy the view, pack a picnic lunch, explore, love one another and let your children be kids.

6/13/2015 - The Molming's, NE

We've never been here before but heard about it from my sister.  We were passing by and were very thankful you had a cabin open so we could spend time with family. It was very calming and enjoyable spot.  We wish you all the best!

Stayed here for the fourth time in as many years.  Les and Jackie were wonderful as always.  Every time I've visited, I bring Black Hills virgins.  Everyone has loved it.  We definitely had adventures - our favorites being the Devils Bathtub (not on maps!) and our day at Pactola Reservoir kayaking and cliff jumping.  We've added many new memories and ones that we will cherish for a lifetime.  We caught Brook and Brown trout within a mile of Wickiup.  We had an amazing Father's Day that will be hard to top!  Huge thank you to Les, Jackie and Starla for all their help and assistance and great conversation.  We will be back!

5/27 - 5/29/2016 - Shelia and Kaylan

Great start to our summer! We had a fantastic time hiking in the amazing Spearfish Canyon.  When it started raining we tried our luck in Deadwood.  Found a great little brewery in Lead and came back to our cozy little cabin.  Just the getaway we needed.  Our camp host was friendly and welcoming.  We will definitely be back again.

9/14/2015

This was a wonderful place for my girlfriend and I to hide away and split bottles of wine after a long and stressful week.  Though we must return to our normal lives, we are thankful for the calm and quiet that Wickiup has provided us with these last few days. It was exactly what we needed to recharge our minds.  We did some thrifting in Spearfish and after the sun went down, enjoyed far too many games of Uno and probably too much wine.  Reading back on this entry we sound like a very old lame couple but sometimes its alright to be exactly that when you need a break from the craziness of life.

7/26/2015 - Mark, Moscow, ID

Stayed four nights here in Timbertop. We used to have our family reunions here at Wickiup. The last one was over twenty years ago and Wickiup remains just as I remembered it.  While here I took a trip to Wounded Knee, climbed to the top of Bear Butte, hoked to the top of Harney Peak and took in the Friday and Saturday night perks of the Days of 76 rodeo. I leave with a heavy heart, for I know not when the next time will be. I shall return to this beautiful place.

6/18/2015 - Bob and Peggy, MN

Seems as if we have almost the entire grounds to ourselves.  We have been here almost 1 week and only had 2 nights someone rented the cabin next door.  All by ourselves, which we love.  Bob grew up in Deadwood so the area is coming home for him.  2 years ago we stayed in the Prospector cabin.  We really like the solitude on this end better! Thank you for that :)  Today our oldest daughter turns 36!  Not too old to hike to Harney yesterday, however.  Round trip it took us 5 hours.  Lots of great viewing along the way and of course the top is spectacular. We have hiked it many times and it never gets old.  More hiking today - Iron Creek Trail and then more biking on the Mickelson Trail.  Blessings and Peace to all that arrive in this most blessed place in Gods country.

6/5 - 6/7/2015 - D.R. Kolbeck

Hello again Wickiup.  My partner and I were just here 2 years ago and stayed at the neighbor Goldenwest. We love both cabins but Timbertop sure is first in our hearts now.  This year we are newlyweds on our mini honeymoon - we've been married less than 30 days!  This is the best place to come and spend some R and R time with each other.  Disconnected from jobs and stress. We played Uno - he had to teach me but what a fun time.  Today we're having french pressed coffee and breakfast before we head off.  Reptile Gardens and scenic wildlife loop.  Tomorrow we plan to participate in the Volksmarch up to Crazy Horse.   We have some friends in the Horse Thief Lake Campground we'll meet up with. Heard its raining everywhere but here - that's great for us!  You can see it's affecting the creek as its swollen up over the banks.  Beautiful, clean, cold water. Off to next the stop!

7/26 - 8/1/2014 - Franki and Doug, OH

Big thanks to Les, a great host.  The fire ring was a great time, cabins were clean and plenty of towels and hospitality.  33 in our group and it was nice that we could all stay together.  Rode the motorcycles all over, up and down and back.  Cheyenne Crossing is great home food but you may have to wait.  We have been here before and will be back again!  Thanks all!

8/1/2013 - Randy and Vicki

This was the first visit and we WILL be back next year.  Timbertop was very comfortable for just 2 people.  Close enough to a lot of cool places to ride to - just wish we had more time to see it all.  Jackie and Les made us feel right at home which was great.  Couldn't ask for nicer hosts.  Thanks for our enjoyable stay.  See you next year!

9/2/12 - K and M

Finished our 11 day trip to the Hills at Wickiup.  Cute little cabins,  Loved Spearfish Canyon - so beautiful.  My fiancé cant say enough good things about the carrot cake at Cheyenne Crossing Cafe.  All and all great spot to spend a few nights if you're doing some sightseeing nearby.

9/2 - 9/4/2011 - The Alfsons

Had a great time.  This was our second stay at Wickiup. Beautiful place and could not ask for anything nicer! Will be back!

June 2014 - Jenn and Steve, CO

Wonderful stay! Wonderful hosts! Thanks - this way a great way to spend our 7th anniversary

Last week of August 2013 - Groebners, MN

Wonderful time! Easy to get to all the places we wanted to see. Les and Jackie are great! Thanks!

5/12/13 - Robert and Tonya

We are sadly leaving after 5 nights in Timbertop cabin.  We have enjoyed the peace and quiet.  We are in daily awe of God's home.  He has provided for us.  The beautiful clear streams, majestic mountains, tall green trees, big boulders and the wildlife we have seen.  Jackie and Les are wonderful hosts and have a beautiful camp.  Jackie was great to give us ideas of places to visit.  Thank you both.

8/5 - 8/9/2012

Sturgis Bike Rally!  First time here. I loved the cabin.  Seen Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower - how amazing.  Days were hot, nights were cool.  Would definitely come back to Wickiup for a second visit.
