Dear Starla, I absolutely loved staying here. It was so much fun. We went up the mountain and saw the forts! They were super cool! We also went all the way to the top and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. I hope to come back someday soon. - Jayda K. P.S. BYE!

Very nice cabin - we very much enjoyed our stay! Look forward to coming back!

7/22 - 7/24/2017 - Fiechtner Family, CO

Fiechtner family visit from Denver, Colorado. Ben is 93 years old this year - we brought him on this trip to visit family. He was born in Athboy, SD in 1924 (which is near Isabel, SD) He worked on the Fiechtner family farm until the “dust bowl” when the family packed everything they owned in an Oldsmobile and drove to Colorado. Ben went to WW11. Then later he worked in South Dakota on the railroad. He also worked in the Homestake Mine at 2700 feet below! Feb 1949 to Dec 1949 then he went back into the Navy.

Our family owned several homes in Deadwood. #3 Shine Street was the fiechtner house as well as the other big white house by the library and the house across the street. We hope everyone enjoys this area. It has a lot of great history and beauty. This cabin is larger than the family home where they lived in the 20’s with Mom and Dad, 4 daughters and 5 sons. We enjoyed the cabin and hope you do too!!!

7/2 - 7/4/2017 - Jensen Family, Pickrell NE

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful We enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very rustic as explained on your website. The teenagers loved tubing down the creek and being able to sleep in the covered porch area. Thank you!

We loved the feel of the old log cabin feel. The staff is very helpful and friendly. This place is located near fun places.

6/24 - 6/26/2017 - Hansen Family, Kansas City

We had a good time. Place was clean and the staff friendly.

5/26 - 5/27/2017 - Erma and Ray, WY

Very enjoyable time. We liked the rustic atmosphere of the cabin. We appreciated how clean the room was. Nice job on all the work you do. The porch would have been so peaceful had the weather been warmer. We plan to keep returning. This is our 3rd cabin..all hold good memories.

6/17/2017 - Dennee Family, Appleton, WI

We loved everything about our stay at Wickiup - Outpost cabin is great, everything we imagined and more. Spent lots of time sight - seeing this week, drove Needles HWY (Amazing), went to Woody’s old portraits in Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, Bear Country and so many more! So much to see, wish we could stay longer! We will be looking so forward to staying here again over and over when we come out to SD!

8/2016 - Don and Tami

Great memories! Came back to a place we have stayed many times. Few things changed.  Miss the wood burning stove.  Over 45 year of staying at Wickiup Cabins and looking forward to more.

7/2/2016 - Ragus Family

After a long drive from Sedalia, Missouri, we were excited to finally arrive here.  We all loved the rustic feel of the place.  My sister and I loved sleeping in the covered porch.  It was different having less/simpler amenities but it was a welcome change.  What we loved the most was how it felt like we were in the wilderness with the log cabins but still had the community of neighbors and helpful staff. Thanks.

7/29/2016 - Ron F., MT

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here - Thank you!  The scenery and atmosphere were great.  We were returning to the area after a 20 year hiatus and I am very glad that we chose to come here.  Keep up the good work!

August 2015, 4 Riders, KY

First timers, loved everything here at camp. This is the place to stay if you're wanting away from the hustle of town but still close enough for a short run.

07/25/2015 - The Kitelingers, Exira, Iowa

What a beautiful place! We were here 10 years ago with some friends and finally made it back to stay at Wickiup again.  My family and I have enjoyed how peaceful it is here and God's country is amazing.  We praise God and thank Him for a wonderful family vacation and the time we had together - away from all the technology.  We hope to come back to Wickiup --- sooner than another 10 years! May everyone have a safe trip home.

Got here Friday and had supper at the Stage Stop Cafe (Great food).  Went to Terry Peak and Summit on Saturday and Spearfish Canyon and saw the Falls.  Had a picnic lunch there.  We all got sunburns!  We loved staying here.  Sure to be back here again.

6/8 - 6/10/2012 - April

Hayes sisters Steph and April with husbands James and Brian.  We had a blast!  The beds are comfy.  We didn't want to leave. We will definitely be coming back.  The owners are awesome!

7/12 - 7/15/2015 - The Taylor's, Lakeland, FL

Loved staying here. Limited phone service and no TV or computers was GREAT! We toured during the day and cooked our meal 2 nights in our cabin. It was almost like camping in the mountains with limited accessories. Would definitely come back if in this area.

7/13/2013 - Daniel, 6 years old

Fun time.  I enjoyed Mt. Rushmore.  I will come back here and do another bonfire.

8/24/2012 - Larry and Karen and son, IA

We stayed here for four nights and while here we toured Devils Tower, Hulet, Belle Fourche, Custer State Park, Lead and Deadwood.  We climbed a lot of trails as well went to the top right behind the cabin.  There is still plenty of things to do next time.

6/7/2012 - Isabella and Jean Pierre, France

6/29/2011 - Mike, Karla, Danielle and Nicolette, SD

Wickiup Outpost.  This place is just beautiful,  Love coming back here to stay.  My husband Mike and I used to come here often before we had children for our vacation.  Now this vacation we have brought our two girls Danielle (12) and Nicolette (10) here so they can experience its wonder.  This trip we went to Mt. Rushmore, shopped Keystone, went to Gulches of Fun in Deadwood.  We went horseback riding at Andy's Trail rides which was absolutely wonderful.  Such awesome views - the trail was great for riding.  We saw deer, baby fawn and a coyote that didn't bother us but really acted kind of tame and was watching us ride and then ran off.  Mike has taken the girls fishing a couple times, we went on a couple hikes on the back hill.  The girls love to sleep and play on the porch - they said it reminded them of the movie "The Parent Trap" which was one of my favorite movies as a kid.  Just love the smell of pine as you get out of your car.  Can just sit outside forever and enjoy and relax and have a great time.  Everyone here was so nice, helpful and friendly.

6/29/2011 - Nikki

My name is Nikki (10) and I stayed here with my mom Karla, my dad Mike and my sister Dani.  I love staying here and sleeping on the porch.  It feels like the parent trap on the porch.  I slept on the left side of the porch and I left a note 7 logs up from the floor at the end of the left bed right where the tiny wood piece is in the center.  If you pull that out you will see my note. Please write another note and put it there.  Thanks.

9/5/2010 - Mark and Karla

Labor Day weekend.  This is our first time staying here at Wickiup.  The people were friendly and welcoming.  The boys Brayden (10) and Alex (12) floated in the tubes down the creek and back again 5 times.  It was fun for them and for us to watch.  We climbed the mountain and saw it (world) from a different view and loved it.  This was a great vacation. Thanks!
