08/2019 - NE

GREAT TIME. Can’t wait to come again. Came riding with the family and plan on making this a yearly trip.

09/17 - 09/21/2018 - Chris and Bob, WI

We loved it out here! Needed a place to get away for a few days, so here we are. We camped out this way last year and got “snowed” out and found Wickiup. Glad to be back! Took lots of pretty rides including The Needles Highway - just beautiful. Spent some time at the Adams Musuem in Deadwood. So interesting. My husband fished and did well. Catching lots of Brown and one large rainbow. Ate them fried, made into spread and baked stuffed rainbow trout. Always love the Spearfish Canyon Ride and on our last day our first time to Devil’s Tower. Loved our little cabin and a few days away from the rest of the world (did not miss watching the news)

08/24/2018 - Mike, Jill and Dutch - Sioux Falls, SD

A good day at the cabin begins with a sunrise and ends with smile!! Great stay, a wonderful way to travel with a dog!

08/05 - 08/10/2018 - T-Bird and Downtown, Tyler, TX

2018 Sturgis “Virgins”. This has been an adventure and an everlasting memory we will always cherish! Met Starla and John who are amazing! We love you and the owner Les is way cool! Love him! This is the best place to meet people from all over and have the same things in common..its crazy cool! We will be back and made forever friends. The scenery - the ride - the places - the people are incredible! We will be back!!!! Love this place!!

07/27/2018 - Jane and Jamison, South Shore, SD

We came to ATV and had a crazy stay! Storms that took power out, tornado 6 to 8 miles away, hail storms and no power for over 22 hours. We got stuck in our UTV during one of the hail storms. No power but still had a great stay - they checked on us daily - water worked with the generator - nothing better than a warm shower! Met some nice guys on their bikes. Great trip and great stay. Spearfish Canyon is worth every minute to visit.

06/04 - 06/07/2017 0 Stacy and Sandi, SD

What a wonderful stumble upon! This was a great getaway from our crazy lives. Serene and peaceful. Occasional traffic reminds us that we are not alone. We came to ride utv trails and wound up with some much more. We are already planning our next trip. Thank you!

9/13/17 - The Zimmerman's, Anita, IA

We enjoyed our stay for our family reunion. A nice, restful place!

We just loved this little cabin. We have been here a few times and this is our second time in Goldenwest. The remodel done is fabulous. I love the steel look in the bathroom. Keep up the good work!

07/14/2019 -

Thank you so much for the hospitality. We came in and noticed the remodel right away. New floors and the tankless water heater made for endless hot water. We loved it and will be back for sure.

09/2018 - Ross and Ruth Anne

We loved the quiet, clean and cozy cabin. To truly appreciate “time” and “nature” we had a chance to get away from electronics. We also enjoyed being able to bring our collies because they are part of the family. Thank you for all that you do! And your staff is wonderful!!! We look forward to staying again!

09/05/2018 - Ted and Sharon B.

We loved the cute little cabin and Im so glad there was no TV! Very quaint little place. Hopefully if we ever get up this way again, we will stay again!

07/25/2018 - Merissa, Bryant and Winnie the Dog - Western, NY

2 nights here for our second anniversary. Road tripped from Western, NY where everyone questioned what the heck we were driving 23+ hours to SD for…..BUT we’re so glad we stuck to our gut that the Black Hills had the adventure we wanted. Bounced around from the Badlands to the Southern Black Hills, then to Deadwood for a night in town and finally here to Wickiup for the Northern Black Hills. We fished essentially every pull off along Spearfish Canyon Hwy with great success yesterday! Also squeezed in Bridal Veil Falls and Spearfish Falls. Today we drove to Crow Peak for the wildflowers and beautiful views at the top. I loved the hiking and my husband loved the fishing and all our friends who didn’t know we left for an improptu trip to SD were dying to know where we went based on our gorgeous photos of SD on our social media!! Thankful to end this summer day with grilling, wine, and smores! Thank you!

8/22 - 8/23/2017 - Mark T., LaCrosse, WI

Heading home after the eclipse.  I passed through the canyon three years ago and spotted Wickiup on the way through.  I couldnt remember the name so I called the visitor center in Deadwood and they put me in touch.  I really enjoyed my time in Goldenwest.  I needed the quiet and peaceful time and space.  Thanks to the owners and staff for keeping Wickiup running - A true national treasure!

8/22/2017 - The Andrews, Hoyt Lakes, MN

Checked in after having viewed the eclipse in Glendo, WY.  Traffic leaving that area was so bad we sat without barely moving for an hour, twice.  Pictures of the eclipse at North on 53 Photography on facebook.  (selfless self promotion). This is also an anniversary trip as we have been married 20 years now.  Drove past, saw vacancy sign, turned around.  So glad we did!  We are going to stay another night now and will try and get back sometime.

8/5/2017 - Aubrey and Travis, Cheyenne, WY

We were here for my first rally and my husbands 2nd but also our 5th wedding anniversary amd 12 years together.  The cabin was perfect, tucked away in the trees but we could still hear the rumble of the bikes as they rode by.  Cant wait to come back.

8/1 - 8/5/2017 - Bill W., Branson, MO

Week before Sturgis on Bike.  Beautiful.  Thanks for the pig roast!

7/27/2017 - B & A, Vancouver, WA

Our 1st trip out!  Beautiful part of the country.  Loved the cabins.

7/21/2017 - S & M, Canada

Highlights of the trip: tubing in the creek, Beer and Wine tasting, hiking the black hills, Caves - jewel was the best!

8/15 - 8/18/2016 - Buck and Donna, VA

My daughter found this spot for us while we were visiting her in Cheyenne, WY.  We have come to SD a couple years with her and family.  We stayed at cabins in Hill City, which were nice but nothing compares to Wickiup.  Our stay here has been amazing.  This little cabin was perfect.  We have never stayed anywhere that we felt so at ease and comfortable.  And it is so beautiful here.  We traveled all around and saw so much.  Then came back here to relax and cook a good meal.  We really hate to leave, but we will be back.  Lord willing, next year for a longer stay.  We have been talking about retiring here and this area.  Staying in such a wonderful place and meeting such fabulous people makes us want that every year.  God bless you all!  Til next year.

7/1 - 7/4/2016 - Bronwyn and Steven, CO

Thanks for a wonderful stay! Les and Jackie are great!

9/26/2015 - Brian and Deane, WI

We had a very peaceful, quiet evening.  The sound of the creek brought memories back from when we stayed here years ago. The Black Hills and this area in particular are such pleasant memories for us.  We remember the wonderful cool evenings after a 90 degree day.  We are so glad that someone is taking such good care of the Wickiup Cabins. Thanks!

7/15/2015 - Steve and Georgia, Sioux Falls, SD

We've been at Wickiup since the 12th. We've been cabin hopping. (1st 2 nights in Ten Sleep) It's been great. We started staying at Wickiup in 1992 when we brought our youngest son and his friend up here.  It was August and the temp dropped to 32 degrees at night.  The Wickiup Cabins of today are much more modern.  In 92', the cabins did not have running water or a bathroom.  We walked down to the shower house.  We filled galvanized buckets (1 for clean water and 1 for dirty) with water from the water pump outside our cabin.  Heat inside the cabin was provided by a wood burner which we also cooked on.  The inside walls of the cabins were logs and many travelers write their memories on the logs.  Sadly they have all be covered up now.  What hasn't changed over the years is the quiet and getting back to nature. Love it here. Hope you all do too!

6/25/2017 - Mark and Tinna M.

We really enjoyed this cabin.  I have to say it was really nice to just feel away from it all and not have WIFI for a couple of days.  We went and saw Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Adams House in Deadwood.  I recommend Sturgis.  My husband and I ran into some people staying in the cabin next to us that were from Overland Park, KS which we are from Olathe!  Its a small world.  The people are wonderful here and we hope to bring the grandkids here next year!

7/15/2016 - Michael, Rosemary - Denver, CO.  Scooter the dachshund, Sally the princess Bichon.

Our group has this entire end.  Fargo and Aberdeen folks in Highlander.  Aberdeen folks in Timbertop, Watertown family in Outpost.  This - Goldenwest - is the spare cabin - Ft. Leavenworth family got new orders and couldn't come.  We're doing all the food prep, storage and clean up here - plus we have an extra shower!  Thunderstorm rattled us out of our beds last night - big boomer thunder.  Love this place.  We've been coming since 1979.

5/30/2016 - Hayley and Ed, CO

Found this spot after being invited to check out the climbing in Spearfish Canyon.  Although we never ended up climbing we enjoyed our stay with you here very much.  We'll be back someday soon.

07/19/2015 - Rosemary and Michael, CO

Here from Denver with Doxie Scooter and Bichon Sally.  Watertown Family in Outpost and The Aberdeen Family in Timbertop.  The weather was fabulous - sunny 70's.  Did the old Iron Creek lake road trail - Eagle Cliffs - better for horses and snowmobiles than hiking. Wonderful time.

7/4/2015 - Josh, Kate and Bruno the Dog!

We've had a wonderful time. Drank beer and mixed drinks around the fire. Smores and more too! This cabin reminded me of my great grandmother, the water rushing is beautiful to watch and lovely to wake up too.  Our showers were nice and warm, the bed didn't leave you with a back-ache the next day and the heater was great for the mornings, especially on our first one.  We had a nice thunderstorm and it was nice to open the windows and fall asleep to the rain.  We all had a wonderful time!

6/15/2015 - Shelby, Danielle and Kaylynn and the Dogs. , CO

So thankful for a warm shower and a bed after camping for a few days in the rain.  It's nice to find a place that allows all my dogs!  Was only going to stay one day but ended up staying two.  Very friendly place. Most likely will stay next year when we come back.  Thanks!

7/18/2014

We enjoyed our stay in Goldenwest.  The sound of the creek was extremely peaceful and the stars were beautiful.  We didn't spend much time in the cabin but we cooked our meals here.  All the pots/pans and utensils were in good shape.  I loved cooking on the gas stove.  We found everything to be clean.  We did follow the advice of a previous renter and left all the windows open and just locked the screen door.  Even then the cabin was pretty!

8/15 - 8/21/2013 - KY

Had a wonderful time with great weather.  No hail or rain on us.  Packed a picnic lunch for our adventures everyday.  Simple breakfast here each morning before starting out then back here for dinner every night.  Always used stove, over, broiler and microwave.  Shopped for groceries at Wal Mart in Spearfish.  Better prices than local stores.  Loved our 200 sq ft cabin.  Its amazing how little you can learn to live with.  We brought our small IHome speaker along with IPod - had nice music to listen too.  Brought laptop and would watch a movie at night.  Read books and knitted and relaxed.  Things we learned about the cabin....leave windows, fan and door open when you leave for the day.  Lock screen door. Hate to leave but time to head home!

7/17/2014 - Danny and Bernadette, CANADA

From Canada on our way home.  Stayed one night very quaint cabin.  Felt at home here.  Everyone very friendly. Enjoyed our stay. Thanks

7/4/2014 - Stan

Les, Thanks so much for bailing me out with my suburban.  You helped to make a miserable day into an easy fix.  No trout as the water is pretty high this year.  I'm not as good a fly fisherman as a bass fisherman.  I plan to prove it when you come to Nebraska in August! Thanks again.

7/27 - 8/1/13 - Dan and Gayle, MO

Great Time!

7/13 - 7/16/13 - Nick, Tana and Cleo

Celebrated our 1 year anniversary at the cabin.  We love the location and the rustic feel you still get from the cabin.  Our passion is food and we did it right on this trip.  A shellfish grill the first night, breakfast pizza on the grill in the morning.  We grilled reubens in the evening with stuffed mushrooms.  Took all of the left over ingredients and made the best skillet me or my wife have ever had.  Our dog loved being able to enjoy the wilderness.  Such a beautiful part of the Hills.  The owners are super friendly and take great care of the place.  We had a wonderful and peaceful time.

9/5 - 9/8/2012 - Todd, Grace, Marie and Anna

Elk Hunt Trip.  Very nice cabin, comfy bed for a god nights rest.  Jackie and Les are the best. They made the trip.  Happy 60th Birthdays this month Les and Jackie.

2012

Jackie and Les, It began merely as another fishing trip to the Black Hills.  I stopped only because Spearfish creek ran right through the compound of the cabins.  I caught none the first trip out. Saw several.  I mainly just fed them grasshoppers I caught on the bank.  Almost as much fun as catching them.  Today, I caught 2 browns.  Mainly, just familiarized myself to the country.  The final analysis is not yet in as Les is planning on flying down to the sandhills next week.  Hope I can get him in on lots of bass.

7/14/2012 - Leslie and Rusty M.

We have enjoyed our second reunion here.  Always a pleasure.

8/14/2011 - Terry and Connie, MN

Sturgis Rally.  Jackie and Les, Thanks so much for making our visit to the Black Hills extra special.  The location was perfect for our "home" for a week of riding.  We enjoyed the breakfast every morning and you and your helpers were so fun to visit with.  We met a lot of people from all over the country and hope to stay in touch.  Thanks for being just one little part of our experience here in God's awesome creation.  We enjoyed every minute.

6/18 - 6/20 - Barb T.

Jackie and Les, Lilacs blooming late in June - what a surprise! And a delicious scent in the air!  I missed Spiritual Pathways site. Next Time but shopped at the cemetery and the chapel on Rochford Road.  Now I will be able to take Mom to a service on the Sunday evening we are here over Labor Day. (Picked some lilacs at the cemetery). Another surprise - the gas cooking stove in Goldenwest - what a little champ! Makes me wish I had one again - nothing like that adjustable flame.  Oh and yeah - The smoke alarm works!  Enjoyed the sunshine in the mornings, the thunder/hail storm on Tron Mountain Road, the wind with the windows down and the sun roof open on the car.  Thanks for a great place to relax and unwind - I feel safe here and its been fun to get acquainted with you over the years - hope you will be here for many more!  Blessings and peace and joy as you tend and care for Wickiup.

8/4 - 8/10/2012 - Geremy and Molly, OH

Sturgis Rally.  Wow! What a great trip! This place is awesome....so perfect.  Away from the traffic but close enough to everything.  Breakfast was great and the people were wonderful.....so friendly and helpful.  We always left early and rode in late - the cabins were such a welcoming night for weary heads.  Great times with great people! We will be back for more!

7/2012 - Tim and Lori

The cabins are comfy and the owners are friendly.  We hope to be back often.

9/14/2011

We are frequent visitors to the Black Hills.  This was one of the most memorable visits we've had.  Finally saw buffalo in Custer State Park.  Heard the elk bugling.  Highly recommend Andy's Trail Rides. In less than an hour we were able to see 3 states from one of the peaks.  I have never ever been on a horse.  He is able to provide horses for all skill levels.  Even 4 year old children.  Met people from all over the world this trip.  As far away as New Zealand.

Doug and Frankie, OH

We had a great time while staying here.  The fire was hot, people were friendly and the room was cute.  Was happy to find the cabins were non smoking!  Riding the bikes through Custer State Park was an experience we could never forget.  The buffalo were crossing the road and we had to wait for about 100 or so of them to pass.  I got some great pictures of them.  They came so close, we could almost touch them.  I like that this place is a little out of the center of everything but still easy access.  Thanks!!
